Dardanelle Elementary demostration


There are three parts, sing the song, the zodiac and tiger mask making, in my subject. In South area of north America, the population of Chinese are fewer than other place therefore; most children did not have the experiences about Chinese New Year. In the other hand, the children I taught are at the age of kindergarten. So their personality  is the limit attention, comprehension and not so strong fingers movement, in my memories of teaching experiences in kindergarten in Taiwan. According to above reasons, the fun stuff, something they can do by themselves, and unique Chinese stuff are the main ideas I will design for event.
For the warm up activity, I select a Chinese song-gong si fa cai to teach, because music always attract children’s attention. However, this activity does not work well. In my opinion, there are two reasons the first is the lyric of song is too hard to sing. The children never have experience to pronounce Chinese phrase, gong si fa cai, therefore teaching the meaning of the lyric first will be better choice in this activity for this age of children. The second is that the relationship between children and I were cold. Usually, I will test the new activity in the mature class. Hence, I can understand this activity pro and con I can adjust and fix it before I use it be a material formally. In fact, this activity did very good job in Noah's Ark before I teaching at Dardanelle primary school. It must have some issues I do not aware. After Dardanelle primary school demonstration, I go back to Noah's Ark to teach younger children again and keep this principle that separate the time to two modules one is teaching by circle and the other one is doing something by individual. Therefore, I can observe and interact every children’s response and then adjust content of teaching immediately. Not surprise, I keep the children’s attention all class. I have great feeling in that time even though their age is younger than kindergarten.
Because the zodiac story and tiger mask making are interaction, I discuss them in this paragraph. In this activity, there are two issues I need to fix. The first is religion, because Russellville is a Christian area. The most part people obey Jesus therefore I tell the zodiac story I need notice the use of word. When I mention the Jade emperor, I have two methods to fix these problems. One is speak quickly and naturally. The other one is explain who he is. I will explain we have the same god in Taiwan, but we use different name. The second is the mature of the children’s fingers. After the instruction of the story, the children have old experience about zodiac animal. In this point, I extend the old experience to the new interest point. When I take the tiger mask to tell the story, it also increases the children’s motivation of to own the mask themselves. In this period, whatever, the bigger or younger children at different school all look concentration. They love this activity. However something I require notices that after the young children draw the tiger mask down. I need cut the element of tiger out first. They can easy to choose somewhere they like and put them on the plate and create their own tiger mask.
In TESL course last semester, Dr. Lombardo mention about learning language is learning culture. Hence, the holiday is great time to advice culture. Meanwhile, English is the best tool to know America culture. It provides the children the other angle to view this world rather than focusing in native country. In the other hand, in the article “a class divided” mention about nobody like to be looked down upon. Nobody likes to be hated, eased or discriminated against. In Taiwan, we are immigration society. The main group is from mainland china early(the ancestor living in Taiwan for a long time ). Another groups include mainland china late ( the ancestor living in Taiwan for short time), aboriginal, and new immigration(people from East South Asia and China). Unfortunately, we have huge problems about they cannot live together harmoniously. The reason is according to the two parties can get more profit if the groups compete with each other. Therefore, that is why the Taiwan set in important position, but we still cannot improve a lot. Accord to above concepts they will be my main gist of design teaching course. In the conclusion, I will say it never happen the best teaching method and programs occur. We need respect every child’s diversity to adjust our teaching method to fit every child.
